Parsing Policies, Progress & Promise on the Road to Sustainability

While the U.S. trade war distraction continues, sustainability legislation is looking less like a panacea.

Government intervention, once seen as a silver bullet to catalyze pioneers and laggards alike, now seems less promising as the EU continues to whittle away at its ESG policies in an attempt to balance the benefits with the burdens. At this point, sustainability experts question what will be left and whether it will be enough to produce meaningful change. Meanwhile sustainability risks being overshadowed altogether by the turmoil brought on by sweeping U.S. tariffs — not to mention a federal about-face where the climate is concerned.

It’s a precarious time with some now weary from the rhetoric, exhausted by the reporting and discouraged by the industry’s slow pace toward a more responsible supply chain. Still, many remain committed.

Join Edward Hertzman and sustainability executives for a discussion about the aspects of the existing legislation they feel will have most positive impact, how companies can leverage the new rules to their best benefit and how you should prepare to comply now.

Get firsthand insights into

  • The parts of the ESG legislation that are most in jeopardy
  • How to determine how much of it will actually apply to your business
  • The aspects of the policies that promise the biggest business benefits
  • How to stay up to date on the policy changes
  • What the imbalance in the U.S./EU stances on sustainability mean for the industry
  • The ways in which companies across the supply chain are plotting a path forward, despite uncertainty

DDP & Other Risky Activities

U.S. trade rules are changing—and enforcement is stepping up.

In an effort to collect every penny owed, the U.S. government is putting all aspects of trade compliance under the microscope. To do so, Washington is also dusting off old regulations to police trade activity. In this environment, importers—and buyers—need to reassess their liability, risk and exposure.

Join Edward Hertzman and customs and trade experts to get your questions answered about the potential perils of delivered duty paid; tensions related to importer of record rules; and how the president’s focus on transshipment could result in a bigger shake up than the tariffs themselves. The panel will provide insights into the old practices and policies that are falling away, the far-reaching implications of the latest trade actions and how to avoid getting caught in the net.

Get firsthand insights into

  • The exposure for the ultimate consignee of a trade deal
  • The precedent for stricter trade enforcement
  • Why Washington is split over what to do about importer of record
  • The potential upheaval related to rules of origin
  • How to audit your operations for exposure
