While the U.S. trade war distraction continues, sustainability legislation is looking less like a panacea.
Government intervention, once seen as a silver bullet to catalyze pioneers and laggards alike, now seems less promising as the EU continues to whittle away at its ESG policies in an attempt to balance the benefits with the burdens. At this point, sustainability experts question what will be left and whether it will be enough to produce meaningful change. Meanwhile sustainability risks being overshadowed altogether by the turmoil brought on by sweeping U.S. tariffs — not to mention a federal about-face where the climate is concerned.
It’s a precarious time with some now weary from the rhetoric, exhausted by the reporting and discouraged by the industry’s slow pace toward a more responsible supply chain. Still, many remain committed.
Join Edward Hertzman and sustainability executives for a discussion about the aspects of the existing legislation they feel will have most positive impact, how companies can leverage the new rules to their best benefit and how you should prepare to comply now.
